Progress Check for Testing

What is the Progress Check? Progress Check is exactly as it sounds. Grand Master Seo and the Kyo Sa Nims get the chance to see the progress of all the students. This day marks the beginning of the Prep Cycle. This day helps the Kyo Sa Nims gather an outline for what areas of training need more work in class and during prep-cycle. The students get to see what is really in store for them.

What about absences? There is no exception for an absence during the progress check. There is no other Progress Check to make up missed ones. Missing the Progress Check will automatically excuse a student from going to Breckenridge Belt Testing.

Uniform? Your full uniform is required. All patches must be properly sewn onto your uniform. There will be NO exceptions. If you do not have patches, place your order at your school’s Pro Shop ASAP! There will be no second chances, so students must be responsible and have the proper attire, along with all the required equipment in their bags (ex. sparring gear, mouth guards).

Prep Cycle Notes for Testing

*Tips for PARENTS!* The Prep Cycle is meant to be a learning experience. That means you and your child should get all the information they can from it. The first and most important tip we can give parents is to attend the Prep Cycles. Grand Master Seo says “the student does not get the Black Belt, the family gets the Black Belt.” The success rate for graduating students shows dramatic increase when the family gets involved in the student’s training. It is surprising how many parents drop their children at the school and leave, then wonder why their child is not ready for Breckenridge.

Bring a notebook. As previously mentioned, there will be a vast amount of information given out during Prep Cycle. Sometimes, especially for the younger students, it is hard to soak up everything that is said. Help you child by writing down information mentioned in class for the written exam. For example: Grand Master Seo will not mention his Dan number very often, and that is a key question on the written exam.

Any little distraction could throw a student’s concentration out the door. For your children’s benefit, cell phones and noisy children should be made silent or handled outside. For some students, little things such as hair in the face or an uncomfortable uniform can distract them at the wrong moments. Most students are tugging at their uniform or fidgeting with their hair when they should be standing at attention. Fixing uniform pants and arms so that they are not long enough to interfere with the student’s movement will minimize that.

There will be long hours of hard work and the students must make sure they are up for the challenge. High Energy is a must, so make sure you are getting plenty of rest and eating healthy meals before and after class.

A word from Grand Master Seo…

Dear Students,Congratulations on your upcoming testing and promotion to your next belt level in Breckenridge! Don’t forget to pick up the graduation schedule at your school. You have worked hard and your achievement is well deserved. Show your accomplishment by having your belt embroidered with your name, the promotion date, and your school’s name. You can request this special service at any of the Seo’s Martial Arts locations so that it can be ready for you on your promotion day. Please be sure to indicate the correct belt size if your current belt is too small or too long. If you have any questions, any one of the Seo’s Martial Arts Team can help you.
